Parent Project:

In February 2010, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia and the County of Camden successfully secured $23 million from the US Dept. of Transportation to build a network of walking and biking trails.

This funding will help extend trails like the Schuylkill River Trail from Walnut Street to South Street, in Philadelphia; and rebuild sidewalks and install bike lanes through Camden.

Now, PEC and the Bicycle Coalition have teamed up again to help state and local governments apply to the US DOT's TIGER 2 funding program to further extend the network of trails and urban bikeways across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The project - GREAT Mid-Atlantic - Generating Recovery by Enhancing Active Transportation in the Mid-Atlantic Region, will design and construct 30 pedestrian and bicycle trail segments in 10 regional trail systems that span urban, suburban, and rural areas in three states and would serve more than 8 million Americans.

STATUS: Not Funded. The coalition of partners will continue to search for funding to make GREAT Mid-Atlantic a reality.
