Overview of the East Coast Greenway in Philadelphia

The East Coast Greenway enters Pennsylvania in Bucks County from Trenton, NJ. and runs along the Delaware River as it heads into Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) is working with the national East Coast Greenway Alliance, and local partners to fill in gaps along the route on the North Delaware Riverfront.

In 2005, PEC prepared the North Delaware Riverfront Greenway Master Plan, which identified trail routes between the Betsy Ross Bridge and the Philly/Bucks County line.

Since then, the Delaware River City Corporation has been established to implement the greenway plan.

PEC continues to play a role in identifying and filling trail gaps in this section.

• North Delaware Riverfront Gaps Study - The North Delaware Greenway Gaps Feasibility Study will help implement the North Delaware Riverfront Greenway by evaluating the feasibility of potential alignments for the trail through particularly challenging sections in the Bridesburg, Tacony/Holmesburg, and Torresdale sections. This study will enable DRCC, PEC, and the City to choose a preferred and workable trail alignment and move ahead with trail design, acquisition, and construction on all gaps. This report describes the existing conditions, obstacles, recommendations, and implementation techniques for each proposed alignment section.
