Other Emerging Restoration Project Opportunities

Parent Project:

PEC is coordinating with Delaware River City Corporation and other partners to queue up additional restoration opportunities along the Philadelphia North Delaware River. Starting with the work completed in the Philadelphia North Delaware River Greenway Ecological Assessment and Prioritization Report (November 2009), our goal is to design and install shoreline restoration projects at key locations with consideration towards connections with regional fish and wildlife habitat.

Our next steps focus on the approximately 2 mile K&T trail alignment that runs from the Frankford Arsenal boat launch upriver to the Tacony boat launch (both managed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission). Included in this reach are potential wetland mitigation sites identified by the Philadelphia International Airport as part of their proposed runway expansion project. PEC continues to look for project partners and funding to advance priority projects with this reach.

Proposed K&T sections:

PEC also consults with partners working on restoration projects in other locations in and around the City of Philadelphia. PEC staffer Paul Racette serves on two restoration project advisory boards, one for the newly opened Washington Green Park on the central Delaware, and the second for the restoration and park master plan now under development for the Westinghouse site in Tinicum Township.
