Economic benefits of conservation, recreation and heritage tourism, plus trail development and conservation will be featured topics.

The economic impact of tourism, recreation and green space will be the focus of the second Summit for the Laurel Highlands Conservation Landscape Initiative scheduled from 9 to 4 on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Fred Rogers Center of St. Vincent College in Latrobe.

The Conservation Coalition of the Laurel Highlands has teamed up with trail advocates to put together the program for the day.  A special focus will be on how to develop trails because the Summit is being supported in part by a small grant that the Pennsylvania Parks and Recreation Society received from the state Department of Conservation & Recreation for the specific purpose of providing trail workshops to support trail development.  Their support is greatly appreciated.

The first Laurel Highlands CLI Summit was held April 27-28, 2009, and attracted 160 people.  We hope to attract that many again with updates on efforts to renew Growing Greener funding, a workshop that dusts off and revisits the trails and greenways plans that each county has developed, and sessions on building capacity in non-profits and “Trail Building 101.”

The day-long program will cost $20.00 to cover lunch plus coffee, beverages and light snacks during breaks.

Mark your calendar and plan to be there!
