James Segedy, Ph.D., FAICP, Director of Community Planning
Dr. Segedy is Director of Community Planning with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Prior to joining PEC he served as Director of Community-Based Projects and Professor of Planning and Design at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He has served as Chair of the Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Division (ENRE) and as long-time Chair of the Small Town and Rural Planning Division of The American Planning Association. He is also Past President and Professional Development Officer of the Indiana Planning Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Main Street Program.
Jim currently serves as the Chair of the Business Development Committee of the Swissvale Economic Development Advisory Committee and as a member of the Swissvale and Edgewood Planning Commissions.
Dr. Segedy received his BS in Microbiology and Public Health with Minors in Music and Chemistry from Michigan State University. He received his BS (with honors) in Architecture from Lawrence Institute of Technology and MUP and PhD (Urban, Technological and Environmental Planning) from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Segedy is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Dr. Segedy has been involved in over 150 planning projects across the United States, Australia and New Zealand, authoring well over 100 professional reports and several book chapters and articles. He and his wife Lisa are regular columnists for the Planning Commissioners Journal. He has been recognized with APA National Planning Award for Individual Achievement, was recognized as the first Indiana Planning Sagamore, and was recognized by the Governor of the State of Nebraska as an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.
