Jon Meade, Director of Watershed Programs
Jonathan Meade is Director of Watershed Programs at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. He is an ecologist, strategic planner, and coalition builder with over 15 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and public sectors. His role at PEC includes leading watershed programs statewide, serving as executive director of the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers, leadership in creating a new statewide water conservation organization called Save Water PA, oversight of the statewide EAC Network, and coordination of an emerging statewide stormwater initiative. He was executive director of the Highlands Coalition, a four-state public private partnership focused on strategic land and water conservation. Prior to that, Mr. Meade led the planning services group at a regional land trust in Pennsylvania. Earlier, as a national program manager at the National Park Service, he created, implemented and led a nationally recognized program that brought together MBA students from top schools like Stanford, Harvard, and Yale to craft business plans for national parks. This unique application of a private sector tool to the public sector environmental led to great experience in understanding both in the nature of business planning, as well as in how to best approach public sector planning. Mr. Meade earned a master’s degree from the Yale University, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and an honors bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond. He was also a Fulbright scholar in western Canada where he studied large-scale wildlife corridors. He lives outside of Philadelphia with his wife and two sons.
