Josh Karns

Josh Karns joined the Pennsylvania Environmental Council in 2011 and serves as a water project manager in the Central Office. Josh’s primary responsibility is coordinating the Pennsylvania River Sojourns and the River of the Year program. He also spends time developing resources for Save Water PA and promoting the EAC Network.

Prior to joining the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Josh served as the executive director of Pennsylvania Walks and Bikes where he led the Safe Routes to School state network and developed policy proposals for a walk and bike friendly Pennsylvania. Josh has also worked as the communications and outreach coordinator for 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania where he helped to build a statewide coalition to promote Smart Growth development principles. As a volunteer, Josh founded and serves on the board of Friends of Governor Stable, an organization that is working to preserve a geologically unique natural area in Lancaster County and to promote sustainable recreation on the land.

 Josh earned a master of public administration degree from Penn State University where he focused his studies on the role that infrastructure plays in downtown revitalization. He has a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University with a concentration in environmental biology.
