Greenspace Alliance, Inc.

The GreenSpace Alliance seeks to protect vanishing open spaces in five Southeastern Pennsylvania counties. The Alliance brings together its members, local government and non-profit organizations to promote open space for economic vitality, quality of life and the ecology.
Background:
The GreenSpace Alliance was created as a PEC project in 1992 in the Philadelphia region.  As the project grew in importance, it was spun off an an independent but affiliated organization of PEC.

Project Goals:

The current goal is to promote the establishment of a regional network of ecologically and environmentally functional green space that promotes the health and economic well-being of the region's four million residents. To that end, the Alliance, with partners, has created a report, including GIS mapping, establishing regional goals for land protection. (For a copy of the Regional Open Space Priorities Report, click here.) GSA is also working to bridge the gap between outdoor recreation and conservation through its on-line interactive database of recreational green spaces in Southeast Pennsylvania.

Major milestones/successes to date:
Since its creation, more than 166,000 acres of land has been conserved within the region.
