Susquehanna Greenway Partnership

Dramatic greenway stretches 500 miles from New York State to Maryland through the heart of Pennsylvania.
Background:

Planning for the Susquehanna Greenway stretching from New York to Maryland began in 2002 and covers all 500 miles of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania.   The Greenway will link existing trails and other scenic, historic or cultural places.

Project Goals:
The Greenway will be a tremendous catalyst for environmental stewardship along the Susquehanna River at the same time it is a major economic driver throughout the Pennsylvania Wilds and Southcentral Pennsylvania.
Major milestones/successes to date:
Work to date has included setting up Reach Advisory Committees (for ease of planning, the 500 miles of study area was divided into six “reaches"), holding advisory committee and stakeholder meetings and conducting key person interviews. Also, existing greenway/open space plans and river conservation plans related to the Susquehanna have been reviewed. Furthermore, design workshops were held, and a survey of residents has been conducted.
Current/upcoming plans:

The Council is developing a vision and values statement based on the information gathered during the community involvement effort. The next phase of the project will include a community education and involvement strategy, along with development of the Greenway Plan.
