The NewLanders have found traditional folk music that was written by, for and about working people of Southwestern Pennsylvania. These songs are folk music in the truest sense of the word – but the NewLanders play a fusion of fiddle, electric guitar and strong harmonies that they call “folk music… with an attitude.”
We went back and forth about whether to feature “Where the Old Allegheny and Monongahela Flow” – a testament to the industry of the Pittsburgh area - or "Hard Travelin' " - which is some fine blues! They suggested, “Use them both.”
So here for your enjoyment are two songs, “Where the Old Allegheny and Monongahela Flow” and “Hard Travelin,” performed by Pittsburgh-area musicians Doug Wilkin, Paula Purnell, Art Gazdik and Gerard Rohlf – The NewLanders.
We were delighted to feature Guster as our first featured musical artist because they had created Reverb Rock to educate and engage musicians and their fans in environmental sustainability. We’re just as pleased to offer the Newlanders – quite a difference in style – with songs that speak to why we have so much work to do here in Pennsylvania.
The NewLanders also are included in of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour program.
