Market/JFK Complete Street, Philadelphia, PA

  1. NEPA –  Scoping Field View to be held in Winter/Spring 2012. CEE Level 1B expected by July 2012
  2. Additional Project Info:
  • City of Philadelphia performed a pilot project in October 2011, to quantify any traffic impacts the project would have on Center City traffic patterns. Market Street and John F Kennedy Boulevard were both narrowed down by one lane, with traffic cones demarcating the lane drop, for three weeks in October. (see attached files). No noticeable negative impacts were recorded, and the City has decided to move forward with the project.

  • In addition to being listed in the “Sustainable Transportation for Livable Cities” application, this project is also being submitted to the TIGER Program as a stand-alone application. The City of Philadelphia and partners feel it would be best if this regional application was funded. However, the Market/JFK project deserves additional consideration due to its groundbreaking nature, and to the positive impact it would have on making Complete Streets out of the two main east-west access routes into downtown Philadelphia.
